Desert Rose
For this collection, I wanted to tell a different kind of bridal story—one that reflected West African culture and history. I drew inspiration from the architecture and landscapes of the Hausa people. The walls of their buildings, often adorned with intricate relief patterns, reminded me of the artistry found in lace. So, I designed my first lace motif, translating Hausa architectural details into embroidery. The collection also features architectural silhouettes, curved lines, and a soft green floral print inspired by the desert rose—a flower that survives and flourishes in arid climates. The challenge here was bringing such a specific cultural and visual reference into bridal wear without it feeling like costume. I focused on weaving the inspiration into texture and form, rather than surface decoration alone. This collection expanded what stories could be told through a wedding gown.
